About Dhanwantharam Thailam

Dhanwantharam is one of the classical oils of Kerala Ayurveda, described in the Ashtanga Hridayam and still widely used for full-body abhyanga (oil massage). Nagarjuna, an Ayurvedic company from Kerala, makes it with bala (Sida cordifolia), barley, horse gram and the ten roots of dashamoola, plus dozens of other herbs, cooked into sesame oil.

Ingredients (partial list)

Bala, yava (barley), kola, kulattha (horse gram), dashamoola, meda, mahameda, devadaru, manjistha, chandana, sariva, kushta, tagara, punarnava, ashwagandha, shatavari, yashti, haritaki, bibhitaki, amla, ela and twak, in sesame oil.

How to use

Warm the oil slightly and massage over the body, or over the areas you want. Leave for 20 to 30 minutes, then bathe with warm water.

Please note

For external use only. Patch test on the inner arm before first use. Stop use if irritation occurs. Avoid the eyes. Oil can make the bath or shower floor slippery. Keep out of reach of children.
